Punjab
is rapidly emerging as a strong destination for IT/ITES
investment in India and to further strengthen the
objective of making Punjab a Technology hub,
Department of Higher Education, Government of Punjab
with assistance of Punjab Infotech started the training program to
develop professionals for the IT/ITES/BPO/KPO sector
in line with the international standards and
benchmark as laid down by the NASSCOM, under the
brand of P-TOSS i.e. Punjab-Training on Soft Skills.
The ITES industry has a number of segments that
require specific skills, in addition to
communication skills, at the operational level.
These can be broadly listed as under:
(i) Back-Office Operations / Revenue Accounting /
Data Entry and Conversion
(ii) HR Services, Content Development / Animation /
Engineering and Design / GIS
(iii) Customer Interaction Services, Medical
Transcription Services
(iv) Online education or web based training,
(v) Market research analysis using statistical
packages,
(vi) Remote network maintenance and monitoring
Training in the use of computers and in verbal
skills including spoken English. |

Objective.... |

The
training programs are meant to upgrade the skill set
of youth in Punjab for Global Work professionals.
The project was started with the aim to conduct
training on communication and soft skills to
generate skilled manpower for BPO/KPO industries
with skill-sets that are not directly provided by
the conventional education system. |

Salient features of
P-TOSS Programme.... |

The ownership of
the program is vested with Dept. of Higher
Education and the framework of the P-TOSS was
developed by Punjab Infotech.

The training would
be carried out by the selected partner at the
respective college premises.

Dept. of higher Education has
provided necessary infrastructure for
establishment of study centres (Partly equipped)
in 25 Govt. Colleges in Phase- I.

Common course
contents prepared by Punjab Infotech with inputs
from the training companies and also from
prominent BPO companies. The courses would be
conducted on optional basis for students of the
respective colleges who would pay specified fee
for the training programme.

The fee structure
for the courses to be conducted at the College
premises as, part of the programme would be at a
lower scale than the fee structure offered by
the companies at their own premises.

Pre training, mid
level and post training assessment will be
conducted by Punjab Infotech to monitor the
quality of training being delivered by the
training company and to measure the progress
resulting from the training programme.
